Week 1

woodrowjoey

My first week was composed entirely of introductory activities (such as tours, meet and greets, presentations, etc.) and lots of safety training. HF Sinclair takes the safety and wellbeing of their employees incredibly serious, thus being the "rule zero" of the plant for employees to leave work the same way they showed up. Due to this, it was very important for me and my fellow interns to go through thorough safety training before we began work.

Goal Zero safety reminders are found all throughout the plant

Throughout this introductory phase, I learned a lot about the oil and gas industry and the duties that are performed all throughout the specific plant where I am working. This information is highlighted in a separate post titled "About HF Sinclair / Sonneborn." Having finished our first phase of training and receiving our equipment for work, the other interns and I will be beginning real work on Monday. I will be an intern chemist in the lab, where we perform analysis on samples of waxes, oils, and lubricants throughout their different stages of production to evaluate their composition. For example, our plant produces waxes that go on/in food (meat products, fruit, etc.) which we evaluate in the lab for food safety based on FDA regulations. Next week, I will be able to highlight more laboratory procedures and duties as I begin to do them.
